TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH WILL HOST A FREE CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT
The Lyon Family Chamber Ensemble of State College will present a free concert at Trinity Lutheran Church, 408 North Sixth Avenue, Altoona, on Sunday, June 14, at 3 PM.
The ensemble is led by violinist James Lyon, Professor of Music at the Pennsylvania State University, and his wife Carol, principal cellist of the Pennsylvania Centre Chamber Orchestra.
They are joined by their three children, Clara, Elizabeth, and Nicholas. Clara earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Juilliard School in 2008, where she was a student of New York Philharmonic concert-master, Glenn Dicterow. She recently completed her Master of Music degree in Violin Performance at the State University of New York at Stony Brook under the tutelage of Soovin Kim and Phil Setzer. Elizabeth is majoring in Classics at Columbia University while concurrently studying cello with Bonnie Hampton at the Juilliard School. She recently performed Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations with the Central Pennsylvania Symphony and with the Columbia University Orchestra, as winner of their 2008 Concerto Competition. Nicholas is a freshman at State College Area High School, where he serves as principal violist of the 9th grade orchestra and is on the forensics and tennis teams.
The Lyon family has performed throughout the United States and in Australia, including performances at St. Patrick's Cathedral in both New York City and in Melbourne, Australia.
Funding for the concert is being provided by the Dr. William Sunderman Endowment, so there is no charge for admission. Sunderman is a deceased member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the concert.
